Sanders & Polishers
Sanders and polishers are essential tools for a wide range of automotive and industrial applications. While you can sand or polish any surface by hand, using a polishing or sanding tool is much easier and faster, not to mention less physically demanding. Both amateurs and professionals can benefit from having a sander, polisher, or sander/polisher combo tool in their collection.
Types of Sanders
A sander is a power tool used to smooth a surface with sandpaper or another abrasive material. There are a variety of sanders that can perform different tasks. These include:
- Orbital Sander: Larger and more powerful than a palm sander, but smaller than other models. The sanding head moves in a circular pattern called an orbit. Great for prepping a piece of wood for painting.
- Random Orbital Sander: The sanding blade delivers a random-orbit action, providing ultra-smooth sanding on wood, plastic, and metal.
- Belt Sander: Also known as a strip sander, belt sanders feature a continuous loop of sandpaper mounted on a pair of drums. Good for removing excess material, stipping paint, and more.
- Drum Sander: Features replaceable abrasive sheets to sand wood flooring. Ideal for fine surfacing or removing old, fish-covered wood from a floor.
- Sheet Sander: Also known as a finishing sander since they are primarily used to finish wood or other materials. They accept square sheets of sandpaper, making them well-suited to sanding in corners.
- Disc Sander: A stationary machine featuring sandpaper attached to a rotating wheel. You can work from a variety of angles and perform rough or fine sanding by replacing the type of sandpaper on the wheel.
Polishers
Anyone working in an auto shop or metal shop will get plenty of use out of their polisher. Like sanders, polishers help add the finishing touch to a wide range of projects by leaving an attractive sheen on metal and other materials. They feature a rotating head with a foam, wool, or microfiber pad that quickly polishes the material. You can use a polisher to remove a variety of defects including water spots, swirls, etching, scratches, and more. Even if you’re not an automotive or metalworking professional, you may want a polisher to touch up the body of your car or truck.
CPO Outlets has a wide array of new and reconditioned sanders and polishers from leading brands like Makita, DeWALT, FLEX, Porter-Cable, and Black & Decker.
